The controlunit keeps track of which bytes in memory contain thecurrent instruction that the computer is performing, telling theALU what operation to perform and retrieving the information (frommemory) that it needs to perform it, and transfers the result backto the appropriate memory location. Once that occurs, the controlunit goes to the next instruction (typically located in the nextslot (memoryaddress), unless the instruction is a jumpinstruction informing the computer that the next instruction islocated in another location). When referring to memory, the currentinstruction may use various addressing modes to determine the relevantaddress in memory. Also some computer motherboards will supportdual or more processers. Computer servers generally make use ofdual/multi processors. |
